A note from Asasia:

I believe the foundation of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client, and I center that relationship in our work together. My style is curious, compassionate, transparent, and collaborative. We will work as partners to navigate challenges, gain insight into your inner experiences and patterns, process your feelings, and develop new coping skills and strategies. Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” – I believe each person already has skills and strengths that have helped you make it this far, and together we can collaborate to develop new skills, while adjusting those that no longer serve you.

People most often work with me to navigate difficulties associated with anxiety, trauma, life transitions, dysfunctional family relationships and childhoods, and racial and cultural identity. I pull from a variety of techniques and modalities to individualize therapy for each person. These approaches include talk therapy, ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), psychodynamic, relational, mindfulness, and systems theory.

I practice from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racist lens, which means I approach therapy with the understanding and recognition that people do not exist in a vacuum. Your experiences, upbringing, family, culture, race, sexuality, gender, and other intersecting parts of your identity shape you, and by extension, your mental health. As a biracial (Black and white) woman, I know how essential it is to work with a therapist who can understand all of your complexities and nuances, and take them into account when determining how to make therapy work for you. I look forward to getting to know you!
